Spirituality
What is spirituality?
We believe that spirituality is - Understanding myself and my place within the world, recognising the beauty of creation and the possibility of something beyond the ordinary.
“Spirituality is not something we can see; it is something we feel inside ourselves. It is about awe and wonder, asking questions, inspiration and being aware of something ‘bigger’ outside of ourselves.”
The language we use to define spirituality is not always child-friendly, so when talking to children about it we will refer to:
- A sense of awe and wonder
- Care for nature and living things
- Wanting to love and to be loved by people
How do we encourage spirituality at Morville Primary?
- Our school Christian values are taught, lived out and celebrated.
- We have a weekly value award where we can earn additional time on classroom activities for consistently demonstrating our school values in action.
- We make sure there are times of peace and for reflection in the school day.
- We spend time in special places such as St. Gregory's Church and other places of worship.
- We share art, music, stories and poems together.
- We encourage respectful questioning and make sure children feel secure enough to ask those 'big' questions.
- We foster a love of creation through our school grounds including our Forest School Area and our pond. The frogs are always a big talking point in school.
- We encourage the spirit of 'courageous advocacy' and standing up for what we believe in, such as our school council and class projects.
- We practice thankfulness - we take time to give thanks and show thanks for the things, the actions and the people that bring us joy.
- We learn about our feelings, how to recognise them and live with them.
- We foster reflective thinking through our collective worship times.
- We use our restorative conversations to consider the actions of ourselves and others which make a difference moving forward.
